Forward thinking for a new generation (with no reverse) – electric cars
Cheesmur are proud to support and be involved with Rose Hill School with the development of their electric car club, RHS Motorsport.
Richard Mansfield, Head of Science explains “RHS Motorsport had a very humble beginning with one electric Goblin car, loads of enthusiastic kids and two teachers. Year on year we have built up the club. What is important to us is the learning experience, developing the children socially and emotionally but most importantly HAVING FUN!
Seven years ago Rose Hill School Parent Association purchased a Greenpower Goblin kit car. The electrically powered car was built by Y6 pupils during an after school club and had it first race at Goodwood Motor Circuit two days after it was finished. It was a huge learning experience for the pupils and staff alike but everyone had tremendous fun. The ‘Green Goblin’ club has grown over the years and now RHS Motorsport has two Goblin cars for 9-11 year olds and one Formula 24 electric car for our 11-13 year olds.
The 2017-18 season has been one of our biggest in numbers of pupils involved in the club as well as races attended. We have had over 50 children get involved with the motorsport, a record for us. The two Goblin cars have raced in 6 events from Portsmouth to Ford Dunton in Essex; competed in 149 individual races, winning 9 trophies including overall winner at Ford Airfield. The F24 is competing in its first season and it has covered around 120 miles so far after two heats and a test day. On the national leader board it is running 37th out of 121 kit cars, quite an achievement for our rookie season.
Without sponsorship from local business like Cheesmur, we would not have been able to give the children such a unique, rewarding and enriching experience. Cheesmur and RHS Motorsport hold the same values of hard work, attention to detail, perseverance and satisfaction in a job well done. We are looking forward to continuing our relationship for the 2018-19 season.”
