Rose Hill School

The Client appointed Cheesmur Building Contractors to construct a high specification swimming pool facility, incorporating changing rooms, showers, entrance foyer and 1st aid room. The client’s design brief was for a distinguished pool building that could provide an all year-round swimming facility for the pupils and community, in lieu of their exiting external pool. Where pupils previously changed in the existing building and walked across the field to the external pool, they can now change within the heated pool building or access from the main school, which is linked to the pool structure.

Several significant issues quickly arose, which may have had a detrimental effect on cost and programme. However, through collaborative working between the Client, the Design Team and Cheesmur Building Contractors, these matters were dealt with efficiently and for the benefit of all parties to the contract. The collaborative working, required Cheesmur Building Contractors to take on a substantial CDP for the works, including the mechanical & electrical works, roof coverings and the pool structure / ventilation regime.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony for the pool, Charles Arthur, Chairman of Governors at Rose Hill School said:

“…We have been hoping for an indoor pool at the school for thirty years, since my children attended. I am so pleased it is finally here and that you are lucky enough to enjoy such a facility…”
