As befits a Company founded in 1936, Cheesmur have extensive expertise in building restoration and this has allowed us to successfully undertake award winning refurbishment and construction projects within the heritage sector.

Our skilled conservation team have vast experience of working on many of our local prestigious buildings, including Lewes Castle, the Brighton Bird Cage Bandstand, The Royal Pavilion, Eastbourne Bandstand, Eastbourne Wish Tower and, in Lewes, Anne of Cleves House, The Crown and Southover Old House.

We combine both traditional and innovative methods to achieve quality and lasting finishes in a manner sympathetic to the aesthetics of the building.

Recent and current projects include:

  • the £1.6m conversion of the Grade 2 listed former Post Office in High Street, Lewes to provide a new office headquarters for a local company.
  • the £625k repair and full refurbishment, following extensive fire damage, to the Grade 2 listed Southover Old House in Lewes for a private client
  • the £1.1m internal reconfiguration and restoration of the Grade 2 * listed Southover Grange, Lewes for ESCC Registration Services
  • the £200k emergency works to make safe a collapsed section of Lewes Castle wall following extensive storms in conjunction Heritage England and associated consultants for ESCC
