The project comprised the refurbishment and repurposing of an existing hospital department intended for dementia patients. Works included strip out and structural alterations, the design and installation of full mechanical and electrical systems, partitioning, ceilings, decorations, flooring, specialist door systems, specialist sanitary ware and equipment, external doors, windows, hard and soft landscaping, fire alarms, nurse alert systems, kitchens etc.
The design and construction presented a number of challenges including understanding the client and patient requirements, detailing and buildability issues, working in a live and sensitive environment with the 1st floor being occupied by patients during the ground floor works. As a result of our collaborative approach and team ethos, we were able to work closely with the design team, client and subcontractors to achieve a compliant and user-friendly facility for the benefit of the NHS Trust that has set a benchmark for future refurbishments.
