Phoenix Centre

East Sussex Council commissioned the refurbishment of the phoenix centre, a key adult social care facility supporting vulnerable members of the community. The project aimed to improve the overall building's performance, security and accessibility, ensuring the centre can continue to provide a safe and welcoming environment for service users.

To maintain safety and allow the works to progress without disruption, the centre agreed to fully decant for the duration of the programme. The programme ran over a 6–8 week period and reached completion in early February 2024.

Scope of work and outcome

• Removal of existing windows and doors.
• Installation of new Accoya timber double-glazed units to improve thermal performance and energy efficiency.
• Replacement of the main entrance with aluminum glazed screen and automatic door, significantly improving accessibility for vulnerable and mobility-restricted visitors.
• Electrical works and updates to access control systems to strengthen security and operational reliability.
• Internal repairs, redecoration and final finishing works to refresh and modernise the centre.
