The Weller Youth Centre in Knoll Park is a landmark collaborative build between Brighton & Hove City Council and the Hangleton & Knoll Project. Designed as a sustainable, modern, and versatile hub for local youth services, the centre demonstrates how community‑driven design and innovative construction can create meaningful long‑term impact.
Working alongside Cityzen, the design team set out to create a highly efficient, low‑carbon‑in‑use building. To meet these sustainability ambitions and ensure long‑term durability, the facility was constructed using a structural insulated panel system paired with robust metal rainscreen cladding. Early works included completing the substructure in partnership with Amerra Groundworks.
The building integrates green technologies to maximise energy performance, including:
Despite the spatial constraints of the site, the completed centre makes intelligent use of every square inch, delivering a range of brand‑new facilities. These include a flexible multi‑use hall for activities and events, dedicated office space, a private meeting room, full kitchen facilities, and accessible WCs, all designed to support diverse community needs.
Ultimately, the most meaningful measure of success is the response from the community it serves. Following completion, the client shared their delight:
“The National Youth Agency and some local young people visited together last week and were all blown away, it looks beautiful.”
We are incredibly proud to have delivered this highly sustainable, beautifully finished space, and we hope it continues to inspire and support local young people for generations to come.
We’d love to hear from you and would be pleased to discuss your project.
