Sector: Residential

Value: £750k

Architect: George Baxter Associates

Private House, East Sussex

The client appointed Cheesmur Building Contractors to construct a high specification extension to their existing property whilst concurrently facilitating the refurbishment of other areas of the house.  The clients brief was to create a curved building that would be used as an informal family space whilst allowing easy access to a new external entertaining area to the east and to the new swimming pool to the west.  The construction was traditional in nature with bespoke Oak trusses sourced from a local timber merchant used to support the roof which was tiled in a clay tile sympathetic to the main house.  Bi-folding doors were employed throughout the extension to open up the room on either side during the warmer summer months.  Internally, underfloor heating was installed to maximise the useable wall space of the new structure alongside the latest Sonos integral audio/visual entertainment systems.

As the project progressed, the scope of the works increased with the Client instructing bespoke timber framed changing facilities for the new pool, extended hard and soft landscaping works and the refurbishment of the main kitchen, informal dining area, breakfast area and library.

With the input of a locally renowned Landscape Architect the final design allowed the final scheme to blend in with both the existing house and the surrounding mature gardens in a stunning part of the Sussex Countryside.
